Few people realize how immensely fascinating the history of Naples is.

 

Calusa Indians lived in the area of what is now known as Cutlass Cove and other areas of Southwest Florida for at least a thousand years until the mid 18th century.

 

The shell mounds built to create high ground was their work product. This resource was often used to build the base for the early roadways in and around Naples. South of Everglades City, one can visit shell mounds still intact.
